Frequently Asked Questions

How does luggage shipping with Excess Luggage work?
We collect from your UK door, ship your bags or boxes by air or sea to your destination, and deliver to the address you give us. You get a quote first, then book; we handle the transport and guide you through the paperwork.
How much does it cost?
Prices are based on the weight and size of what you send and the destination, so we quote per shipment. Air freight is faster and priced higher; sea freight is more economical for larger or less urgent loads. Request a quote for an exact price.
Is there a weight limit per item?
Items up to 30kg travel at standard rates. Heavier items are accepted and carry a heavy-weight surcharge (advised at quote stage), so two 20kg boxes can be more economical than one 40kg box.
How long does delivery take?
It depends on the destination and service. Air freight is typically a matter of days; sea freight can take several weeks. We give estimated transit times, from the date of UK collection, when you book.
Do you collect from my home?
Yes. We offer door-to-door collection across the UK. You tell us the address and a convenient date, and our courier collects from you.
What can I send?
Personal effects, luggage, boxes and household items. Some goods are restricted or prohibited and cannot travel, so check with us if you are unsure about anything.
What can I not send?
Dangerous or prohibited goods such as aerosols, loose lithium batteries, flammable liquids and perishables, plus anything restricted by the destination country's customs. If in doubt, ask before you book.
Do you handle customs?
We guide you through the documentation you need. Depending on the destination, import duties or taxes may apply and are usually the responsibility of the receiver. We tell you what is required before you ship.
Is my shipment insured?
Yes — transit cover is available and you add it when you book. It protects against loss or damage in transit, up to the level you choose, so we recommend it for valuable or irreplaceable items. Ask us about cover levels when you get your quote.
How do I track my shipment?
We provide tracking so you can follow your shipment from collection through to delivery.
Do I need to be flying to use this service?
No. This is unaccompanied baggage and personal-effects shipping, so you do not need a flight ticket. We ship your belongings independently of any travel.
Do I need to pack everything myself?
Yes, please pack and label your items securely before collection. We can advise on packing and have guides for fragile or awkward items.
How do I pay?
You can pay when you book your shipment. We set out the available payment options at quote stage.
Which countries do you ship to?
We ship from the UK to destinations worldwide, including Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Middle East. See our destinations pages or ask for a quote.
How do I get a quote — and how quickly will I hear back?
Tell us your UK postcode, where it’s going and roughly what you’re sending, and we’ll come back with a quote. Start on our quote form, or call the team on 0800 096 38 39.
Is shipping cheaper than paying the airline’s excess baggage fees?
For two or more bags it very often is — airline excess is charged per kilo at check-in and adds up fast. We’ll quote your shipment so you can compare, subject to airline rates at the time of booking.
Do you deliver to the door abroad, or to the airport?
Our standard service for luggage and personal effects is UK door collection through to the destination arrival airport, where the receiver clears and collects. Door-to-door delivery is available to many destinations — just ask when you get a quote.
What happens if my shipment is delayed or held at customs?
Schedules can shift, and customs can hold a shipment for inspection or missing paperwork — usually because something wasn’t declared correctly. We help you declare and document everything properly up front to avoid that, and keep you updated if anything changes.
How far ahead should I arrange shipping?
The earlier the better — air is usually a few days, sea several weeks — so allow enough time before you need your things at the other end. We’ll give an estimated transit time when we quote.
