Moving abroad, sending a child off to university overseas, or simply trying to avoid eye-watering excess baggage fees at check-in — there are a lot of reasons people end up needing to ship luggage internationally, and just as many ways the process can go wrong if the company handling it doesn't understand the destination. Excess Luggage Co. has been shipping unaccompanied baggage and personal effects from the UK since 1998, and every destination on this site has its own dedicated page covering the customs authority involved, the documentation required, and — critically — whether your belongings will be delivered to your door or whether you'll need to collect them yourself at the arrival airport or seaport.

That distinction matters more than people expect. A shipment to the USA, Australia, the UAE, or New Zealand can go straight to your new address. A shipment to most other countries in the world — including major markets like India, Canada, and Singapore — requires you, or someone you authorise, to attend the arrival point in person and clear customs yourself. Neither model is better or worse; they simply reflect how each country's customs authority chooses to process unaccompanied baggage, and getting this wrong on the day your shipment lands is the kind of mistake that's entirely avoidable if you check the right page first.

We handle your UK export documentation on every shipment, with the exception of trade licences. Import paperwork required by the destination country is the importer's responsibility — we provide the valued packing list and export documents you'll need to complete it, but the customs declaration on arrival is something only you, or your appointed representative, can submit. This division of responsibility is the same regardless of which of our 185 destinations you're shipping to, and it's explained clearly on every individual country page.
