Saudi Customs (ZATCA) assesses imported goods on arrival and applies particularly strict controls. Used personal effects for genuine relocation are generally allowed with a detailed itemised inventory and values, but Saudi Arabia strictly prohibits a wide range of items: all alcohol, pork products, non-Islamic religious materials, imagery or items considered offensive to Islamic values, e-cigarettes and certain medicines. The good news is that used belongings you already own are treated far more kindly by customs than new shopping. A few things simply cannot travel in unaccompanied freight, mostly for safety reasons: loose lithium batteries and power banks, aerosols, perfumes and anything flammable, and cash. Items up to 30kg per item travel at standard rates; heavier items are accepted with a heavy-weight surcharge, or you can split the weight across two to avoid it.

There is less of this than you might think.
