People ask this in a few different ways — “how do I ship my luggage overseas”, “sending bags overseas”, “shipping suitcases overseas”, “how do I send luggage abroad”, even “can I post luggage overseas” or mail it. They’re all really asking the same thing: how do I get my bags to another country without dragging them through an airport or paying a fortune in excess baggage? This page answers exactly that, in plain terms, drawn from doing it from our Heathrow-side base since 1998.

Sending vs mailing luggage overseas — what actually works

It’s worth being honest about the options, because one of them isn’t really practical:

✉️
Mailing luggage overseas through the post sounds simple, but ordinary postal services have tight size, weight and cost limits. A full suitcase or a few boxes usually falls outside what the post office will take affordably — and there’s no door collection or customs help.
Shipping luggage overseas with a freight service is what most people actually need. We collect from your door, ship by air or sea, deal with the paperwork, and deliver abroad. For anything bigger than a parcel it’s cheaper and far less hassle than trying to mail it.
💼
It suits all sorts of senders — students heading to university abroad, families relocating, people sending belongings ahead, or anyone who’s simply got more than the airline will carry without charging a premium.

How to send luggage overseas, step by step

1
Quote & book

Tell us what you’re sending and where. We give you a clear quote up-front — and as long as your shipment is what you told us, that’s the price you pay, subject to airline rates at the time of booking.

2
Door collection

We collect your bags or boxes from any UK address. No airport, no depot, no lugging the weight around.

3
Pack & document

Goods are prepared for export and we sort the itemised list and customs paperwork your destination needs.

4
Ship & deliver

Your luggage travels by air or sea and is delivered to the address overseas, or ready to collect on arrival.

Which suits your shipment

Air freight is the fast choice — a few days to the arrival airport, priced on weight and size, subject to space and flight availability with the carriers. Sea freight is the value choice for anything substantial — priced by the space it takes up, moving in weeks rather than days. Many people sending luggage overseas split the two: air for the essentials they need on arrival, sea for the rest.

What not to put in your shipment

No lithium batteries in a standard shipment — that includes the batteries inside laptops, phones, tablets, cameras and power banks. Batteries can be packed and exported as declared dangerous goods, but that has to be arranged before you pack. Undeclared dangerous goods are a criminal offence and the duty sits with the sender, so tell us exactly what is in the shipment.

Beyond that, every country has its own restricted and prohibited list. When you book we’ll flag anything specific to your destination so nothing gets held at customs.

Shipping luggage overseas — your questions answered

How do I send luggage overseas from the UK? +
The simplest way is a door-to-door luggage shipping service. We collect your bags or boxes from any UK address, ship them by air or sea, handle the customs paperwork, and deliver to the address abroad — so you never carry the weight to an airport or depot.
Can I mail luggage overseas through the post office? +
Ordinary post is rarely practical for a full suitcase or several boxes because of size, weight and cost limits. For anything that size, a dedicated overseas luggage shipping service is cheaper and more reliable than trying to mail it — and it comes with door collection and customs handling.
What’s the cheapest way to ship luggage overseas? +
For anything you’re not in a hurry for, consolidated sea freight is usually cheapest, because you pay by volume rather than premium per-kilo air rates. If you need it quickly, shared air freight is the cheapest fast option. See our cheapest way to ship luggage internationally guide.
How long does it take? +
Air freight is typically a matter of days to the arrival airport plus clearance, subject to space and flight availability with the carriers. Sea freight runs in weeks rather than days depending on the destination and sailing, plus customs clearance.
Is it cheaper than airline excess baggage? +
For anything beyond one or two extra bags it usually is. Airlines charge premium rates per bag or per kilo at the airport; we collect from your door and move the weight door-to-door, typically at a lower total cost for larger amounts.
